Uniting Cultures Through Shared Cuisine
Individual Project
September 2023 - May 2024

Client Project
Project Duration: 12 weeks
The Client.
The Rideau Rockcliffe Centre
For this project, my client was the Rideau Rockcliffe Resource Centre which is a community-focused organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families in the Rideau-Rockcliffe area of Ottawa. It offers a wide range of services, including food security programs, housing assistance, and social support services, aimed at improving the well-being and quality of life for residents.

Research.
The Healthy Immigrant Effect
Immigrants have been seen to have a higher level of health upon arrival to Canada, compared to their Canadian counterparts. However, this health advantage vanishes as they continue to live in the country.

How might we create space where Canadian and International cuisine merge and complement each other, creating new meals that are reflective of the people’s culture and an aspect of their new emerging identity?
Ideation.

Sketches
I started by quickly sketching out rough concepts, which allowed me to explore different forms, features, and functionalities without overthinking.
Modeling
I then moved into making scale models to refine the proportions and test the functionality of key mechanisms.

User Scenario.
Once the scale models are refined, I create user scenarios to visualize how people will interact with and use the product in real-life situations.
